My Philosophy on Teaching

  1. Every Student is different. I individualize lessons based on the student's age, level of ability and what he or she wants to get out of the experience. There are students who hate to play scales others love it. One wants to play a Taylor Swift song another Metallica. Some want to sing themselves. Each students lesson plan is unique.
  2. NEVER EVER talk down to the students...ONLY POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT.
  3. SET ACHIEVABLE GOALS!!! Set each student up to succeed by never giving homework that's too difficult. The more they succeed the more they enjoy the lessons. When they fail…..

Recommendations

My 13-year-old son took guitar lessons for several years and was looking for a new teacher. We hired Richard on a trial basis - after the second lesson, my son said he learned more in 2 classes than he had in the previous 2 years!

There are many musicians out there teaching guitar - but Richard is the real deal. A talented working musician who takes teaching seriously.  Patient yet firm and always personable, Richard fosters skill as well as passion for the instrument and the music. He has been with us now for several weeks and there's no looking back!  My son's guitar playing gets better by leaps and bounds every class and he looks forward to continued learning. ~ Jennifer Johannesen
My name is Edward Ambrosius and I have been taking guitar lessons from Richard Kahl on and off for the past eight years. I can say without a doubt that he taught me a lot. I really enjoy our weekly jams. He has a great ear and is also very spontaneous to what we decide to play. That is why I really enjoy our jams. I can honestly say he can play anything. ~ Edward Ambrosius
I am pleased to write a letter of reference for Mr. Richard Kahl. Mr. Kahl has been teaching guitar to my son Nicholas since August 2010 and has been a great motivator and supporter during this time. Mr. Kahl’s ability to connect with Nicholas and support his learning has been instrumental in the past 3 years. He helped prepare Nicholas for high school arts auditions by way of addressing his unique needs and breaking down information so that Nicholas could learn in an effective and efficient manner. He helped boost his confidence and understanding of guitar playing and music reading.

Mr. Kahl’s ability to connect with my son by addressing his specific needs was absolutely incredible and demonstrated his commitment and passion in teaching and supporting his students. Mr. Kahl is extremely reliable and communicates in a way that ensures that as parents we understand his teaching strategy and how it supports our son’s music learning. Mr.Kahl would be an asset to any music student or music faculty. ~ Joanne Sistis
I am pleased to attest to the professionalism and dedication of Richard Kahl, guitar teacher.

Richard began instructing me back in 2012.  Through his instruction I quickly gained knowledge of how to play and compose music. His dedication and encouragement have provided guidance for me and I am sure he will provide expert guidance for all aspiring guitar players. ~ Adam Berk
